Originally built in 1964, the Newman Center had been inching toward it's electrical capacity. While planning to update an office room in 2024, it was discovered that there were no more breakers in the fuse boxes available. It was not possible to add any more electrical components to the building! The plan for the next few years was to add in a/c splits into individual rooms since there is a lack of space for ductwork in the ceilings. While a/c splits are not a major expense, upgrading our electrical capacity and equipment for this future work required significant investment. Furthermore, additional light fixtures and electrical devices have been added to the building over the past 60 years to meet the needs of our students and ministry. Many of these need to be replaced and modernized, which further exacerbated our electrical issue and motivated us to do something about it.
Raise the Roof 2.0 was a success! In 2024, Father Rutten climbed the ladder once again from September 22nd through the 26th. Over the course of four days, we were able to raise $120,000 which was used to finance our electrical and lighting needs (Phase 1 & 2)! During this time, we were also able to raise $35,000 which went towards our goal of $90,000 which was needed to upgrade our transformer (Phase 3, RTR 3.0). Thank you to our generous donors and students who supported our efforts during RTR 2.0 to Electrify the Newman!

Phase 1: Install 5th Fuse Box - $25,000
Phase 2: Replace Lights - $60,000
Phase 3: Upgrade Transformer to 1000 amp 3 Phase Power - $35,000 of $90,000
See how the electrical needs of the building have changed over the years, the issues we were facing, and our upgrades!
